Montréal to host the 7th International Convention of Tourist Guides in 1997
The First International Newsletter
Montréal, November 10, 1995 — The Association professionnelle des guides touristiques (APGT), chapitre de Montréal, unveils its first international newsletter: Convention – Info – Congrès for the 7th International Convention of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Lecturers’ Associations (WFTGLA) which will take place in Montréal, January 20 to 25, 1997. This international event will bring together over 500 tourist guides from five continents with an economic impact of over half a million dollars to the city alone, during the low season.
This Newsletter has been sent today to over 2,000 tourist guides in 38 different countries. It has also been seen sent, to the majority of our partners in the Montréal tourism industry and various members of the Canadian tourism bodies. We hope to inform as many potential delegates about the convention and to encourage them to come to Montréal to discover it as a tourist destination. The congress will help demonstrate the importance of the tourist guides profession throughout the world, who are ambassadors of their various regions.
“Choosing Montréal as the venue constitutes a first in more ways than one : it will be held for the first time in North America, and it is important to note the APGT being members for only a year with the Federation won the bid to host the convention on their first presentation.”, noted Mr. Bouthillier, president of the APGT.
