How can I be become a tourist guide in Montréal?
Before being allowed to purchase the necessary guiding permit from the City of Montréal, all potential guides must have completed the tour guide course offered by the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec.
Do you require a license/permit and/or certification to be a tourist guide in Montréal?
Yes, according to the municipal by-law G-2.
How can I become a member of the APGT?
To be invited to this professional association, you must have completed the tourist guide course given by a recognized institution and graduated and have a current City of Montréal tour guide permit. More information here »

How can I become a tour director?
Though permits and recognized training are not mandatory, most people complete a course in order to familiarize themselves with the requirements of the industry and develop useful skills. A training course is offered by the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec.
Is there a tour directors/tour managers association?
Yes, it is cleed the Corporation des guides-accompagnateurs du Québec (CGAQ).
How can I contact other tourist guides in Canada or around the world?
The APGT is a member of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA). The WFTGA provides a listing of all tourist guide associations in the world.
What languages can APGT members do tours in?
More than 98% of these members are bilingual (English and French) while 60% speak one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese), Czech, Dutch, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Spanish and sign language.

No, the code of ethics of the APGT forbids it.
